How can i do the chain stitch?

Im 14 and i am trying to learn to crochet so i can make a friendship gift for my friends. but i cannot do the chain stitch! the farthest ive gotten is the slip knot i found the easiest video possible and still cant do it! I cant use my right hand well so i only use my left hand but i cant do the chain stitch! What should i do! if you can also give me some other ideas for gifts besides a photo frame baking and bracelets that i can home make that would be great!!(:
